Talk a little, pick a little

I have a very amusing relationship with my voice professor. For many of my lessons, we haven't really gotten a terrible amount of work done, but instead we talk. A lot. Today, after our choir sectional, I wandered by his office to see if the door was open. [I wanted to grab some Dove chocolates from the bowl just inside.] It was, so I poked my head in just to say hello, and ended up staying for a half-hour conversation about security deposits and him having bought his girlfriend [my former voice teacher] an iPod for V-day.

It was good times, and I got some chocolate.

Meteora

Meteora

I thought that I might write a little about the trip, since the only pictures of it that I've put up are the small ones on the side [which seem to get all bunched up in Explorer]. This shot is from one of a cluster of monasteries in Greece, which are collectively referred to as Meteora [meh-TAY-oh-rah, as opposed to the Linkin Park album mee-tee-OH-rah]. I was standing on one of the hills and taking a picture of the town below, Kalambaka. You can learn a little bit more here, if you like. We did not get so see the Grand Meteoron [the second photo down] because it was closed that day, but we saw a few of the others: Varlaam, Stephanou [St. Stephen], and the Holy Trinity [which involved way too many stairs].

A little more about Meteora can be found here.

And I've had a rather not-so-happy Wednesday. Things seem to keep appearing out of the blue that I'll have to do in the next few days or hours, and it makes me grouchy.

Tallboy night

Dustro, T. BoJangles, Shoe Diva and I had a good time last night. We were drinking these crazy Pepsis ... "tallboys," we called them. Pepsi decided that 12 oz. cans aren't quite enough, so they upped them to 14 oz. Nutters.

We also finished up the meat n' cheese from a few days ago, and watched a couple of movies. The first we watched was A Home at the End of the World, which was rather sad but quite good. We followed it up with the lighthearted Connie and Carla, which Thadd and I watched this summer.

I have to go now, because your voice is giving me malaria.

Friday

I really need to get a move-on ... the photos from my J-term trip are still not posted anywhere [although I'm in the process of putting them on my H drive right this minute]. The one of the darling little puppy [above the links] was stolen from Jon's photos. I am the one holding the dog, though, so I think I'm allowed. I think.

Unfortunately, just now I made the mistake of turning the list of photos into a bunch of icons so that I could see the pictures a little more closely ... and in fact made the computer think way too hard. O Computer, I hate you for just a second.

They're having gyros in the caf tonight, so I will be critiquing their tzatziki eatling with Jon and pining for Greece. I'm excited.

Today is my first day of Languages in Time and Space [Linguistics for short.], as the prof was off presenting something on Wednesday. The text looks big and boring but will be fairly interesting, I think. I'm taking the class for fun anyway.

Off to eat lunch with Dustro. Yes, I'll actually be there this time. Scoundrel.

And I'm carrying my Turkish Delight around with me today, so if you find me ... you can have some. If you ask nicely.

Things

If you're hungry for sushi, why don't you just print it out? That's what Homaru Canto did. Read the article, if you have a free New York Times username. It's amazing.

Anyway, I'm going to go read more of Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister, since I'm near the end and actually quite taken with the book. Not as good as Wicked [the book], though, but I'm enjoying it still.

And perhaps get some knitting done for Lina, as I still owe her a hat to match her scarf.

Oh, and I suppose I might have some homework.

Turkish Delight

Apologies. I did not mean to neglect you, dear readers, for the week I have been back in the States. I promise to share some photos soon - especially since they're already all digitized. For behold! I have a new digital camera. Anyway, a new layout is in store for this blog so's I can show off a couple of choice photos.

The weather in Decorah's not too cold right now, and I'm glad for that. I'm also glad that I don't have a lot of books to buy this semester, and that I had to pay less than $100 to even out my balance with Financial Circus, and that the roomie's schedule will keep her much more occupied than last semester, at least timewise. Unless, of course, she skips classes again to sleep.

And I just got to see Sumnah for the first time since she's been back from Tanzania and South Africa. Good times.

Well, I'm going to eat lunch with Dustro soon, so The Newly Returned Turkish Delight is gonna sign off. (If you want some actual Turkish Delight, I've got some you can try.
