Friday

I really need to get a move-on ... the photos from my J-term trip are still not posted anywhere [although I'm in the process of putting them on my H drive right this minute]. The one of the darling little puppy [above the links] was stolen from Jon's photos. I am the one holding the dog, though, so I think I'm allowed. I think.

Unfortunately, just now I made the mistake of turning the list of photos into a bunch of icons so that I could see the pictures a little more closely ... and in fact made the computer think way too hard. O Computer, I hate you for just a second.

They're having gyros in the caf tonight, so I will be critiquing their tzatziki eatling with Jon and pining for Greece. I'm excited.

Today is my first day of Languages in Time and Space [Linguistics for short.], as the prof was off presenting something on Wednesday. The text looks big and boring but will be fairly interesting, I think. I'm taking the class for fun anyway.

Off to eat lunch with Dustro. Yes, I'll actually be there this time. Scoundrel.

And I'm carrying my Turkish Delight around with me today, so if you find me ... you can have some. If you ask nicely.

Things

If you're hungry for sushi, why don't you just print it out? That's what Homaru Canto did. Read the article, if you have a free New York Times username. It's amazing.

Anyway, I'm going to go read more of Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister, since I'm near the end and actually quite taken with the book. Not as good as Wicked [the book], though, but I'm enjoying it still.

And perhaps get some knitting done for Lina, as I still owe her a hat to match her scarf.

Oh, and I suppose I might have some homework.

Turkish Delight

Apologies. I did not mean to neglect you, dear readers, for the week I have been back in the States. I promise to share some photos soon - especially since they're already all digitized. For behold! I have a new digital camera. Anyway, a new layout is in store for this blog so's I can show off a couple of choice photos.

The weather in Decorah's not too cold right now, and I'm glad for that. I'm also glad that I don't have a lot of books to buy this semester, and that I had to pay less than $100 to even out my balance with Financial Circus, and that the roomie's schedule will keep her much more occupied than last semester, at least timewise. Unless, of course, she skips classes again to sleep.

And I just got to see Sumnah for the first time since she's been back from Tanzania and South Africa. Good times.

Well, I'm going to eat lunch with Dustro soon, so The Newly Returned Turkish Delight is gonna sign off. (If you want some actual Turkish Delight, I've got some you can try.

Turkey

The country, not the food.

Hello again. I hope all is going well. Yes, Dustro, I changed my template from Greece. Sometimes it's just necessary, especially when you realise that it looked pretty much like a 13-year-old girl's website. I'm sorry for my lapse in whatever it was.

Anyway, the sites are amazing. I've purchased my very own Turkish rug, swam in the hot springs of Pamukkele [or however it's spelled], and seen mosaics that no-one has seen yet, except for the excavators. [We were even allowed to take pictures, and I doubt that anything's been published on them, because I'm pretty sure they were found sometime around the end of December.]

Right. So life is great, and I've somehow volunteered myself to do a website for our trip photos. So much for relaxation. But hey - I love this stuff.

I'm off to relax and do homework and stuff. Catch ya later!

Yasas

Greetings from Greece, all!

Can I just tell you that I love it here, and I wish I could stay in Athens for
the whole month. It's amazing here, and I'm loving every minute. Even when I'm
absolutely exhausted from all this walking around. I'll make a list of
wonderful things.

(1) Souvlaki. The Greek version of kabobs. The chicken is absolutely fabulous,
and the seasoning is out of this world.

(2) Olives. It's Greece, there are olives. They are SO tasty.

(3) Tzatziki. Yogurt-based garlic-y goodness with cucumbers and onions chopped
up. I'm sure it depends on the chef for the exact ingredients, but the stuff I
had at lunch today was blissful.

(4) The Acropolis. That's right, I love more than just the Greek food. It's so
incredible to finally be able to see the Parthenon and the Erechthion up
close! I can't even begin to tell you how cool it was.

(5) Euros. Despite the sagginess of the dollar, I think I love the Euro.

(6) The Plaka. This is the touristy tschotschke district. There are
restaurants everywhere, and you eat at tables out on the street for the most
part. That's how beautiful the weather is.

That is quite enough. I'll have to update later, if I find another chance.

My father's final words were

"Love her, as I loved her, and there will be joy."

That was an ode to The Princess Bride, which I've seen on VH1 at least three times since I got home [I only watched one of those times]. Wonderful.

I just thought I'd leave a few "final words" before I head up-up-and-away from here, as I find it unlikely that I'm near a computer again for some time.

(1) I got a replacement library card today, because my original one has gotten lost in the abyss that is our house. That's how I'm able to check my email right now. Woo!

(2) I got socks and pots for Christmas.

(3) I just got a whole lot of traveler's checks. I mean a WHOLE LOT.

(4) I spent a lot of good time with Dustro and Jenn yesterday. I bought my first Gap clothes, and I must say, I'm beautiful. And I got courduroys from Lane Bryant. Good times! Oh, and I bought three books. A Turkish phrasebook, Stitch N' Bitch Nation, and Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister. All very exciting. I spent a lot of moneys.

(5) I somehow got a B- in Buddhism, despite the fact that I didn't even turn in a third paper and got Cs on all of my tests [testes]. I must've gotten a really good final grade.

(6) I can't think of anything else. Have a fabulous new year, and if I don't post, you'll hear from me in February. I'm partying with Timmy BoJangles tonight.
